The E-Mail Edition                                                                     October 5, 2001

Before I start, I want to wish HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY to the COUNTRY GRAPEVINE.
Roxanne Moore and her staff do an excellent job, thus a beautiful newspaper.  She and I aren't in competition, but we rip each other off now and then.  I do so appreciate her using some on my material.  Her byline  for me is "You Sure As Hell Don't Want  To Know This Author."  Love Ya Roxanne.   www.countrygrapevine.com

SOUTHERN DELIGHT invites you to come out and toast freedom with them.  The boys will be entertaining at The Bar on N. Dixie Highway and 43rd Street in Pompano Beach.  They will storm the stage on Friday night ONLY.

Everyone in Fort Lauderdale knows what the first Sunday of the month means.  Well, hopefully every Country Music fan.  Or, should I say, traditional country fan, cause there ain't no Garth or Shania played.  It's the monthly Hoedown at Catfish Dewey's (3000 N. Andrews Avenue) with local legend, Shirley Ray.  Now, the Hoedown is legendary in south Florida.  Of course, backing Shirley is a fine group, known as Wild Turkey.  Music starts at 6:00.

Also, Sunday (October 7) is the State Showcase for the FLORIDA COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION.  This year's competition is at the Moose Lodge in Cape Coral.  This is always a fun event to attend, especially the night before.  Right Burt and Jean French?

Hope someone in the FCMA will E-Mail me the results from the State Showcase.  I wish I could be there.

Next Sunday (October 14) is the FCMA Orlando Chapter's monthly jamboree.  It will be at the Lockhart Eagles on N. U.S. 441 in Orlando.  Lord, I haven't thought about the Lockhart Eagles since I stopped drinking.  Well, I haven't completely stopped.  Now, I drink to steady my nerves.  The Jeff Blair Band will be the host band, playing some nerves steadying music.

Country's next female superstar, Erin Hay is also Celebrating Our Country by helping those in New York City.  Of course, if I download her picture again, the damages in NYC will be minimal to what Lois does to me.  Here are Erin's curves  --  words:   "In hopes of providing some help in these troubled times and as a thank you to all of the people who have made my music so successful on mp3.com, I have made a contribution of $100,000 to the Salvation Army's New York Disaster Fund from this past quarter's earnings at mp3.com.  I have also uploaded my version of the old gospel song 'Farther Along' . Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped make this contribution possible."

Ah, Johnny Paycheck.  He's like a bad check.  You can't stop him from returning.  Of course, what country fan wouldn't want him to return?  A few months ago, doctors had him "to take his job and shove it."  But, John said, "Naw, not yet."  It seems that back when Johnny was a "bad check", the Mayor of Greenfield, Ohio, Johnny home- town, ordered the sign saying, "Greenfield, Ohio Home of Johnny Paycheck"  removed.  On September 24th, now Mayor Lannny Bryant ordered the sign replaced.

It has to be a real thrill for a person to receive recognition from his/her hometown.  Some bars in Fort Lauderdale were going to put up plaques, J. Randall Collier, editor of FCMNews Once Drank Here.  The mayor vetoed the thought saying, "It would cost the city a small fortune to make that many plaques."

Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan just finished their first ever instrumental album.  Jack says that it's Big Band, Latin, Ragtime, Blues, Country, Jazz, Rock and Roll and some can't be classified.  All songs are originals, except for the "Perry Mason Theme".  Copies of "Masters of The Keyboard" are available at mailto:CD@jackandmisty.com.

This is a bit morbid.  Two entrepreneurs in Jackson, Tennessee, are selling pieces of the airplane which crash killing Patsy Cline.  The sellers had an opening price of $100,000.  I hope those ol' boys continue to chow down while a-waiting their initial sale.

Am still very, very upset that we in southeast Florida can no longer view the Grand Ole Opry.  AT&T Broadband, our cable provider, doesn't carry CMT.  Yet, if this month, I told AT&T Broadband that my uncle (Uncle Sam) hadn't provided me with enough to pay their bill, they'd be on me like President Bush is on whoever we are fighting.  Many of the Opry favorites are headed home to the Opry for the Opry Homecoming 2001.  The participating Opry stars will be Steve Wariner, Brad Paisley, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Ralph Stanley, Charley Pride and others.

This is off the wire.  Mark Collie not only look like Johnny Cash, but he's taking notes from ol' John's career.  J.C. recorded live albums at San Quentin and Folsom prisons.  Mark's producers say that he is expected to do a live album at Tennessee's Brushy Mountain gray bar resort in October.

Thanks to Alyce Nelson for E'ing that "Sweet Thang" was a  monster for  Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn, not L.L. and Conway Twitty.

Will wonders never cease?   KISS 99.9 COUNTRY is dragging in a big Country Music show, Saturday, November 3rd.  The artists are; Travis Tritt, Brad Paisley, Joe Diffie, Chely Wright and Trick Pony.  The all-day NASCAR event will be at Markham Park in Sunrise.  Log on to www.wkis.com for details.

This edition is abbreviated, because the two papers had to go out at the same time.  See ya in two.
